Why Justin Bieber Skipped Usher’s Super Bowl 2024 Halftime Show

Justin Bieber never shared the stage with his musical mentor Usher, even though others like Alicia Keys and Lil Jon, H.E.R, and Ludacris performed during Usher’s spectacular Super Bowl halftime show. There were rumors that the singer will take the stage with him. However, Bieber supported Usher from the stands during the entire show.

It was expected by fans that Usher and Justin Bieber may have performed their song “Somebody to Love” together.

Just prior to the start of the halftime show, Bieber and his wife Hailey Bieber were spotted sitting in the stands. He remained silent when asked why he didn’t use social media.

It appeared like Bieber decided at the last minute not to attend. A performance by Bieber was still possible as of earlier the show.

Usher has reportedly been in contact with Justin Bieber recently to discuss the possibility of JB joining him at the Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, Bieber declined the request to perform live and all the conversations he had with Usher.

Funny memes started to surface on X after it became apparent that Bieber would not be participating. A ton of fans used humor to express their feelings. Some derided the fact that they waited impatiently for JB to make his grand arrival, while others made fun of him being in the masses alongside everyone else, and a few even jokingly threatened violence as a result.

After seeing pictures of Bieber and the Kardashians landing in Las Vegas on Saturday, there was a lot of speculation going into Sunday.

That would have been Justin Bieber’s second 2024 performance. He last played a more private show—well, smaller than the Super Bowl—at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena on February 1st, right after the NHL All-Star player draft.

Justin Bieber and Usher’s relationship?

Both performers have been close for more than a decade, and the two have worked together on hits like “Somebody to Love.”

Usher said in 2016 that Bieber was like a son to him, particularly throughout the harder times he faced between 2014 and 2017.

Through the years, Usher has mentored Bieber, and the two are still close friends today.

In 2022, Usher said to Extra that, while battling Ramsay Hunt syndrome, he had spent time with Justin.

In 2014, Usher said to The Hollywood Reporter that, compared to when Bieber was younger, their friendship at the time was more of a “man-to-man” one. Bieber was going through personal issues at the time.

After last February, Bieber announced the cancellation of the remaining dates on his Justice World Tour. In the following months, he has largely remained quiet.

In August, however, a source revealed that Justin has been busy creating new music. “Justin has been working on his next album for the past six months. Neither Scooter nor SB Projects have scheduled a meeting or taken any action toward this [new] record. The relationship with Scooter has reached its conclusion.”
