Usher says his stage performance at the Super Bowl LVIII will run longer than previous years. Fans of the Super Bowl this coming Sunday may notice something extra: time.

Usher, the legendary R&B singer, says that he and his group were extremely “strategic” in the planning of his performance at Vegas show.

While most performers are challenged with reducing their entire show into a 13-minute set, Usher says he was able to get 15.

Usher also says, “I can’t explain why, but it’s a funny thing that I was able to do and craft.” “That was a huge strategic thing that happened between me and my agency.”

The 45-year-old singer cum dancer says he’s not nervous and afraid about this performance. He is actually sees it as the climax of his two-year Vegas residency during which he performed 100 shows. He says that since the Super Bowl will be his 101st show, it is now time to “finally celebrate” his accomplishments.

The R&B king wrapped up his Vegas residency in July 2022. He began his shows in 2021.

He says “ I went to Las Vegas with only the belief that people would come because nobody was going anywhere.” After a year of no one going anywhere and everyone being scared to be outside for fear of contracting COVID or putting themselves and their family at risk, you have to realize how strong of a belief someone had to have to put such a performance. I really did act on that based just on my good beliefs, which is why I did it.”

He adds, “So that moment, that night, I get to finally celebrate in the belief that I could come to Las Vegas and do something that was magical.”
Like earlier performances by Prince, Michael Jackson, Jennifer Lopez & Shakira, Beyoncé, and others, he hopes to leave a lasting effect on fans in Vegas by bringing more magic to the city. However, he claims that the main act from last year particularly inspires him.

What Usher said about Rihanna’s Super Bowl halftime performance in 2023?

Rihanna’s was fire at Super Bowl 2023 because of the choreography and the way they did something that felt like a concert,” he explains. “It actually was a great deal of inspiration how I began to think of my show. If you ever came to my residency, it was all about being immersed — being immersed in an experience that is all of these things that wouldn’t necessarily go together,” citing culture from Atlanta, as well as L.A., and Broadway’s theatricality.

It has been challenging to fit all of that into a 15-minute show, but Usher still calls it “one of the greatest celebrations ever.” Lastly, he is eager for both new and old fans to see what he once referred to as “30 years in the making.”

He hopes people feel energized and enjoy the show – whether they know his music or are coming to see him for the first time. He further added that just like the first time, the then 8-year-old boy now a 45-year-old man, feels free when he thought that any of this could be possible.
